Help shape the future of our Clinical and Professional Certifications by submitting your own exam questions!
Each accepted question earns 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) — up to 6 PDH (3 accepted questions) every three years.

Submission Guidelines

To ensure your questions align with the goals of our certification programs, each submission must relate to one of the nine core competencies that drive a Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) Program:

PLANNING A PROGRAM
1. Finance
  • Cost justification
  • Budgeting
  • Vendor negotiation
2. Team Leadership
  • Inclusion of a cross-disciplinary team
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration within the organization
3. Policy and Procedure Deployment
  • Develops written SPHM policies and procedures
  • Obtains management and staff acceptance
IMPLEMENTING A PROGRAM
4. Training Deployment
  • Develops and presents training programs
  • Modifies and customizes training materials
  • Conducts skills validation
5. Clinical Knowledge and Experience
  • Applies knowledge of patient condition, treatment, and handling requirements
  • Communicates the benefits of SPHM practices for patients and caregivers
6. Risk Analysis and Control
  • Applies ergonomics and biomechanics principles to patient handling
  • Provides risk interventions and product recommendations
  • Conducts incident and near-miss investigations
  • Tracks and trends injury data and conducts root-cause analyses (RCAs)
SUSTAINING A PROGRAM
7. Program Promotion
  • Promotes SPHM internally and externally
8. Program Audit
  • Establishes and tracks performance metrics
  • Reviews program elements and implements data-driven enhancements
9. Unit-Specific Customization
  • Conducts ergonomic evaluations and integrates SPHM technology into care pathways
  • Develops unit-specific policies and procedures (e.g., for bariatric care, maintenance, storage, etc.)
Review and Approval

All submitted questions are reviewed by the Examination Committee.
2 PDH will be awarded only after a question is accepted. If a question is not accepted or deemed unsuitable, PDH credit will not be granted.
